Planning a destination wedding in the Maldives is one of the most romantic decisions you will ever make. Here is what you need to know to do it beautifully.
Choosing Your Island
The Maldives is made up of over 1,000 islands across 26 atolls. Each resort has its own character — from the laid-back charm of North Malé Atoll to the ultra-private exclusivity of remote southern atolls. Consider how long guests need to travel, what facilities matter to you, and what kind of setting speaks to your vision.
Our most-loved partner properties include:
- One&Only Reethi Rah — sweeping lagoon views, world-class spa, multiple ceremony locations
- Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru — vibrant house reef, exceptional F&B, intimate feel
- The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands — modern luxury, multiple island experience
- Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi — the largest private island in the Maldives
Legal Requirements
A symbolic ceremony can take place on any resort — no legal registration required in Maldives. Many couples handle legal registration in their home country before or after and celebrate the symbolic ceremony here. Your Ikebana planner will guide you through the process step by step.
When to Visit
The Maldives has two distinct seasons. November to April offers calmer seas and lower humidity — ideal for outdoor ceremonies and photography. May to October brings the southwest monsoon; while still beautiful, you will want contingency plans for rain.
Start Early
We recommend beginning the planning process at least 12 months before your date if possible. The best resorts book quickly, and you want time to design every detail without feeling rushed.
